KAWAI The Variety of a Digital Piano: Convenience & Flexibility with Concealed control panel
Complementing the instrument’s class-leading Grand Feel II keyboard action and stunning Harmonic Imaging XL grand piano sound, the CS8 also offers a strong selection of digital features that further enhance one’s musical enjoyment.

USB audio recording and playback, Dual, Split, and Four Hands keyboard modes, and a rich assortment of customizable instrument voices add greater variety to players’ performances, while the convenient metronome function and integrated classical etudes and Alfred course books ensure that regular practice is both productive and engaging for aspiring pianists.

KAWAI Rich sound selection
Supplementing the beautiful acoustic piano voices, the CS8 also features an excellent selection of additional sounds, ranging from electric pianos and drawbar or church organs, to strings, human choirs, and synth pads, inviting musicians to add greater variety to their performances.

Furthermore, the Dual playing mode also allows two different sounds, such as grand piano and strings, to be layered together, while the Split and Four Hands modes divide the keyboard into two independent sections. The volume balances and other settings for each playing mode can also be easily adjusted using the instrument’s intuitive panel controls.

KAWAI Alfred Inside!
The CS8 comes with the first year’s lesson songs from Alfred Publishing’s Basic Piano Course 1, Premier Course 1 and Adult Course 1 built in. We’ve also included the printed music and recordings for time-tested finger exercises such as scales, arpeggios and Hanon songs.

Kawai digital pianos are the only instruments with Alfred lesson songs built into them*. With the built-in lesson songs, a student can listen to the instructional song being played by an Alfred staff pianist. The student can follow along with the lesson book** to learn how the piece is supposed to sound. The student can slow the song down and play along, even muting the recorded left-hand or right-hand parts to practice hands separately (a common practice technique). The student can also record his or her performance and then compare it to the built-in performance.

** Alfred books are sold separately.

KAWAI Recorder
The CS8 offers an easy to use 10-Song / 2-Track built-in Recorder ideal for self-evaluation or capturing a moment of inspiration.
KAWAI Studio Quality Sounds
The CS8 has a broad selection of studio quality instrumental sounds including electric pianos, organs and orchestral instruments. Any two sounds can be played on the keyboard simultaneously and there is a Split mode where two different instrument sounds can be played on opposite sides of the keyboard. The Four Hands mode splits the keyboard into 2 identical 44-note pianos, allowing simultaneous practice with a teacher or duet partner.
KAWAI Concert Magic
This exclusive feature lets anyone enjoy the thrill of playing the piano, even if you’ve never played before.

Do you wish you could play the piano, but never learned? Playing a musical instrument, especially the piano, is a dream that most people have. Yet, very few have managed to realize that dream... until now.

To help make the dream a reality, Kawai developed Concert Magic – an exciting feature that allows everyone, even non-players, to experience the thrill of playing real music. Concert Magic is an intelligent, interactive system that makes playing songs incredibly simple and fun.
KAWAI Piano Music
The CS8 features a selection of popular classical piano works from the Baroque and Romantic periods, nearly two hours of music in all.
KAWAI Flexible USB Audio and Storage connectivity
USB to Device and Host capabilities provide a world of opportunity, including recording and playing digital audio, storing songs, playing song files and connectivity to computers.

The Classic Series is equipped with modern USB connectors that not only allow the instrument to be connected to a computer for MIDI use, but also to load and save data to USB memory devices directly.

This latter USB to Device functionality allows favorite instrument settings, registrations, and memorable recorder songs stored within internal memory to be safely preserved on USB flash drives, or for standard MIDI files (SMF) downloaded from the internet to be played back and enjoyed using the instrument’s exquisite Harmonic Imaging XL sounds without additional hardware or cables.
KAWAI MP3/WAV Playback & Record
USB memory devices can also be used to play back MP3 or WAV audio files, allowing musicians to learn the chords or melody for a new piece, or to simply play along with their favorite songs. It is even possible to record entire performances (including external line-in audio) directly as MP3 or WAV audio files for emailing to family and friends, or casual listening away from the piano.
KAWAI Flexible connectivity options
In addition to USB, the CS8 has other useful jacks including 2 headphone jacks, MIDI connections and audio input / output jacks for connecting to sound equipment and recording systems.

These varied connectivity options allow the instrument to be enjoyed in larger settings, such as churches and halls, while also providing greater flexibility when using computers, tablets, and other digital audio devices.
KAWAI Built-in lesson & finger exercises

The CS8’s convenient lesson function allows aspiring pianists to learn piano with classical Czerny, Burgmüller, Beyer, Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin etudes, or a collection of songs from the popular Alfred’s Basic, Adult, and Premier course books.

With a strong emphasis on acoustic piano realism, the Classic Series also features traditional finger exercises, scales, and warm-up drills, and includes companion books for all classical scores to further aid one’s piano development.

KAWAI iPad connectivity & apps
Connecting the CS8 to an iPad using a USB cable allows players to extend the instrument’s functionality with a wide range of education, performance, and scoring apps.

A dedicated Virtual Technician app is also freely available, providing an enjoyable way to learn about and adjust the Classic Series’ various characteristics from an attractive touch interface.
KAWAI Premium headphone experience
The CS8’s Spatial Headphone Sound (SHS) technology enhances the depth and realism of the instrument’s sound when listening through headphones or earphones. The player can select one of three different acoustic presets that adjust the spatial positioning of the sound, while also helping to reduce auditory fatigue when using earphones or headphones for extended periods of time.

In addition, the CS8 also feature a dedicated, high fidelity headphone amplifier, utilizing the same premium hardware found in audiophile music devices. This technology significantly improves sound quality when using headphones, and allows players to select a variety of headphone types (Open, Semi-open, Closed, In-Ear, Canal, etc.) for an optimized listening experience.

KAWAI Grand Feel Pedal System
Reinforcing the Classic Series’ reputation as the most realistic digital piano is Kawai’s Grand Feel Pedal System. This unique feature replicates the individual weighting of the damper, soft, and sostenuto pedals of the SK-EX and EX concert grand pianos to further enhance the CS8’s acoustic-like authenticity.

Moreover, it is also possible to adjust the half-pedal sensitivity of the damper pedal, and effectiveness of the soft pedal using specially engineered Virtual Technician parameters, allowing pianists to personalize the instrument’s response to match their individual pedaling technique.
KAWAI Virtual Technician - Personalized piano adjustments
A skilled piano technician can personalize an acoustic piano’s sound and touch response. Kawai’s exclusive Virtual Technician does the same for the CS8 digital piano.

In addition to the reverb and effects functions, the overall character of the CS8 acoustic piano sounds can also
be  dramatically  adjusted  using  the  instrument’s  Virtual  Technician  feature.    There  are  two  methods  of  using  the
Virtual Technician: Smart Mode and Advanced Mode.

In  Smart  Mode,  the  Virtual  Technician  intelligently  performs  a  collection  of  adjustments  for  the  player,  based  on
ten preset attributes such as ‘Soft’ or ‘Strong’, ‘Brilliant’ or ‘Gloomy’.  This mode is recommended for musicians that
wish to enjoy different piano characteristics, without delving into the individual parameters of Advanced Mode

In Advanced Mode, the player is given full control over every aspect of the piano’s configuration, allowing precise adjustments over hammer hardness, action regulation, cabinet size, and a variety of other acoustic characteristics.

This mode is recommended for musicians that enjoy fine-tuning individual details of the piano sound in order to
suit their personal preferences

Kawai CS8 Uses
The Grand Feel (GFII) Wooden-Key Action
Kawai’s Grand Feel (GFII) Action is the latest in Kawai’s long line of wooden key actions. The action offers graded hammers, key counterweights, Ivory-touch key surfaces (white keys), Let-off and triple sensor key detection. The CS8 offers the longest key length of any Kawai digital piano.

As one of the world’s premier builders of acoustic pianos, Kawai has long understood the importance of an instrument’s touch, or “feel”, to the player. Without a keyboard action that responds perfectly to an artist’s commands, a piano would not accurately create the sound that the artist is seeking.
