Purity of Tone that Fills the Room... In order to produce Kawai’s special tone, a broad range of woods are meticulously analyzed for quality and character, before being selected as the finest materials for each specific purpose. The soundboard has arguably the most significant influence over a piano’s individual tonal elements. Therefore, woods that conform to the most rigorous gravity and propagation velocity standards are carefully selected by experienced Kawai Artisan Craftsmen in order to achieve rich, deep bass tones, and bright, colorful, sustaining treble tones.

The Core System Maximizes Outstanding Tonal Power

CORE is an acronym that stands for "Convergence for Optimum Reflected Energy." Convergence refers to the way the piano's strength centers – the rim, plate and underside beams – all focus on one central point at the heart of the instrument. This focus creates an incredibly strong "core" foundation that maximizes the reflective capabilities of the inner rim for outstanding tonal power and sustain. (GL40/50 only)

This synergy of the selection of the finest structurally divergent hardwoods produces a powerful, well-rounded richness of extraordinary tone that is the hallmark of the GL Series. This focus creates an incredibly strong “core” foundation that maximizes the reflective capabilities of the inner rim for outstanding tonal power and sustain. Select precision tapered permanently crowned soundboards made of only straight-grained, quarter-sawn solid spruce, with bridges made of solid maple or beech, are carefully set and matched to the iron plate for correct string pressure and optimal enhanced energy transfer, which empowers the GL-50 with exceptional energy transmission and tonal projection for life, breadth, and depth of extraordinary tone that lasts from generation to generation.

Dual Duplex Scaling is an important design element that helps to make possible the beautiful singing quality of the Kawai GL Series Grand Pianos. Dual Duplex Scaling allows the extreme ends of the piano’s strings to vibrate and produce harmonics that enhance tone. Dual Duplex design combines a front duplex region (between the tuning pins and Agraffes) with a similar rear duplex region (between the Aliquots and the Bridge) to add a double measure of harmonic richness, brilliance, complexity and sustain to the piano’s tone. (GL-20 to GL-50)
